I'm not sure I have much add here since I already find the whole concept really strange, I guess this is bridging the uncanny valley by having a real person behaving like their taking orders from a player in a game, but when I see numbers like $7000 a day I have to questions who's paying and can't they do something better with their money, one place I'd recommend looking into is Japan, because they hit this point ages ago, seriously, most Japan's sex workers don't have sex, there's a massive industry with men, and actually quite a lot of women paying insane amounts of money just to sit next to someone, eat drink with them, lie next to them, ect.
I can tie this back to NPC's, games likes the Yakuza series, "well over a dozen instalments and is aimed at a mainstream older male audiences" include real women who work in the sex industry, from webcam models to hostess's as NPC's you can meet in game, interact with, date, eat with, ect, which actually acts as cross promotion for there real services.
The idol industry run's off the exploitation off social withdrawn and if I can be rude, developmentally stunted men, imagine if you will that one day, some young girls got cast as children entertainers who do silly little songs and wear cute dresses.
But Instead of children, a bunch of out of shape and likely quite social awkward men turned up, and the idol industry was born and is placed somewhere between grade schoolers birthday party entertainment and hardcore porn with a healthy dose of parasocial manipulation of people not that far removed from the likes of Chris Chan.
If an idol gets outed as having a boyfriend that's the end of their career and they get replaced and the next step is usually porn.
It's 20 year old women pretending to be 8 while dancing and and doing anime baby noises, but apparently there are enough men worldwide who see them as soulmates that it's no going anywhere.
